How it Started

Welcome to Apt Garden Creations.

Apt Garden Creations is based in Rolleston on the outskirts of Christchurch and - like so many great ideas - came about during the 2020 Covid-19 Lockdown. The brainchild of a handy husband (Joel), with too much time on his hands, and a plant-obsessed wife (Laura) - the raised garden canopy was born.

A simple post on a New Zealand-made social media page sparked an incredible wave of support from home gardeners around the country. Demand grew quickly, and before long, Apt Garden Creations became a trusted solution for New Zealanders wanting to protect and grow their own food.

"Apt - an old word meaning ‘appropriate’ or ‘suitable for the circumstances.’ Our garden canopy has certainly proven to be suitable for passionate NZ gardeners and producers."

A New Chapter

In a classic Kiwi twist of fate, Dan Cameron was introduced to Joel via a mutual friend after he had enquired about a solution to help farmers grow their own native plants. It was 2021, and after a couple backyard bevvies and yarns amongst the two, Dan figured out pretty quickly that the beds were exactly what he was looking for.

After three years as an Apt customer, Dan took over the business when Joel made the decision to sell in late 2024, with Apt Garden Creations proudly passing into Dan’s ownership in May 2025.

When considering ownership, Dan was drawn to Apt Garden Creations because of what the gardens enable. He believes strongly in the value of growing your own food - whether it’s for resilience, family health or for the simple satisfaction of producing something yourself. Apt represents a practical way to support more people to do exactly that.

And, having used the gardens himself over a number of years, Dan saw how thoughtful design, durability and ease of use could remove common barriers to growing successfully, making productive gardening more accessible at home and in schools.

While Apt continues to grow under Dan’s care, the heart of the business remains the same: practical, NZ-made garden solutions that empower people to grow more, waste less and lead healthier lives.

About The Gardens

The raised garden canopy is a perfect solution to protect crops from cats, dogs, chickens and other animals, as well as frost and wind - helping to ensure all that time and effort in the garden isn’t lost. 

Key options include gas struts fitted to the front doors, latches for the side doors and even an internal irrigation system that sprays down from the canopy - simply plug in your hose and you’re away!

Designed and built in New Zealand, Apt’s gardens are made to handle real-world conditions. Durable in strong winds, stable once installed and sized to support productive growing at home and beyond.
